2008 Programme
Each day begins at 10am with coffee or tea, ahead of the
morning session at 10.30am. A seated two course lunch will be
served with wine or elderflower, before the afternoon presentation.
The day will end with homemade teas and another opportunity to
talk and walk around the garden.

Susie
Edwards - Handtied Bouquets SOLD

Susie, served her apprenticeship under Constance Spry, before setting up her
own floral design business which has her taken her around the world. Today
she will demonstrate before guiding everyone through the creation of their
own handtied arrangements. One traditional and another contemporary, giving
practical tips on conditioning and techniques along the way. All materials
including flowers will be provided. A full day of facts and fun with two arrangements
to take home.

Sophie Hughes - The History and Cultivation of Dianthus
After 25 years of collecting and researching, Sophie holds the National Collection
of Old Dianthus. They have a fascinating history as flowers used in early
Eastern and European works of art as Christian symbols to their later use
in portraits
to demonstrate the sitter's wealth or marriage. Sophie will also share her
wisdom, giving advice about the propagation and cultivation of Pinks and
Carnations.
Helena Attlee - Give the Guests a good soaking!
Helena, author, editor and journalist on Gardens and their History has spent
several years living and working in Italy, where she continues to lead
specialist tours including one for Hortus in May 2007. She will consider
the numerous
different uses of water in Italian Gardens during the sixteenth and seventeenth
centuries, with particular focus on water tricks, automata and fountains.
