Each day at Llanover Garden
School begins at 10am with coffee or tea, ahead of the
morning session at 10.30am. A seated two course lunch will
be served with wine or elderflower, before the afternoon
presentation. The day will end with homemade teas and another
opportunity to talk and walk around Llanover Gardens.
Thursday 28th February
Mick Petts and Richard Lewis - Willow Workshop
Mick is a landscape sculptor with over 20 years experience
weaving willow professionally. Richard grows a diverse range
of coloured willows. Together they will demonstrate the skills
required to create a structure from willow, before participants
make their own clematis support, sweet pea stand, simple
arch or trellis. All materials provided.
Thursday 6th March
Frank Hardy - The Low Maintenance
Garden Sold Out
Frank is a very experienced plantsman, gardener and lecturer.
Careful choice of plant material and spacing are often the
key to low maintenance and will help change your approach
to gardening. Frank will also describe ingenious techniques
for planting, watering, staking, mulching, feeding and hoeing.
Chores which, if done correctly at the beginning, save time
later.
Fergus
Garrett - Composing and extending the Garden Picture Sold
Out
As the head gardener at Great Dixter, Fergus is renowned
for the colour and long flowering season of his borders.
He will use stunning pictures to illustrate designing with
plants and good planting techniques, before giving advice
on ways to extend the seasons within the border.
Tuesday 11th March
Rosemary Campbell-Preston - The Scented Garden
Rosemary is an experienced tour leader and lecturer on Plants
and Plantsmanship. Using fresh plant material, so that you
can see, touch and smell some of the best ways of bringing
scent into the garden, she will give ideas for planting locations
and combinations.
Derry Watkins
- Plants for Free: Seeds, Layering & Cuttings
Spring is an excellent time to start sowing. Derry, the owner
of Special Plants Garden & Nursery which is overflowing
with beautiful and unusual plants, will demonstrate gathering
and sowing seeds, pricking out and caring for seedlings.
Derry will also touch upon the principles of layering plants
and taking cuttings. An afternoon full of practical propagation
advice.
Friday 14th March
Joy Larkcom - Creative Vegetable
Gardening: Tthe art of combining fruitfulness and beauty Sold
Out
Joy, a pioneer organic gardener and one of this country's
leading writers on vegetable gardening will talk about creating
the 'potager effect': from designing boundaries, beds and
paths to planting vegetables, edible flowers and fruits to
make the most of their productiveness and beauty.
Noel Kingsbury - Perennials
: Plants that stand up for themselves Sold
Out
Noel is an entertaining speaker, author and designer who
has extensive knowledge and experience of plant form and
structure within a natural setting. Today he will speak about
perennial plants for wild or minimal maintenance situations
where they have to look after themselves, and show slides
to demonstrate examples of their successful use.
Monday 17th March
Floral Workshop with Susie Edwards - Spring Fever
Susie will show you how to create a bar design for a church
window sill in a style which can be adapted for use as a
table decoration too, using seasonal plant material. In the
afternoon, participants will make a topiary style design
which can be used individually or in groups to make a big
impact.
Tuesday 18th March
Easter Demonstration with Susie Edwards - Mad March Winds
Susie will demonstrate an eclectic mix of designs including
an Easter Tree and other floral styles to suit all ages,
tastes and budgets to decorate your house for the Easter
Holiday. As this day will be fun for children there is a
special rate of £20 for them.
