Each day at Llanover Garden
School begins at 10am with coffee or tea, ahead of the
morning session at 10.30am. A seated two course lunch will
be served with wine or elderflower, before the afternoon
presentation. The day will end at about 3.30pm with homemade
teas and another opportunity to talk and walk around Llanover
Gardens.
Wednesday 7th October
Helena Attlee – Gardens in Wales
Following
the publication of this year's surprise hit, 'The Gardens
of Wales' which has gone into a second
printing Helena will present an unusual tour
of the history of Wales through the medium of its fabulous
and often unknown gardens. The talk will be illustrated
with photographs by award-winning photographer Alex Ramsay.
Marina
Christopher – Late Summer Flowers
Marina, whose nursery Phoenix Perennial Plants has been
described as the ‘Fortnum & Mason of unusual and
interesting plants’ will use fresh material to show
how to get more from your garden in late summer and autumn,
by choosing plants with a late flowering season or with attractive
foliage, seedheads or berries. She will also give
practical cultivation and propagation tips.
Tuesday 13th October
Charles Flower – Wild flowers providing nectar
through the season
Charles, who likes to exploit the secondary sites in gardens
where garden flowers can struggle, but where the native
wild flowers can thrive, will talk about growing wild flowers
throughout the season. Starting with woodland flowers,
he will move from meadow and hedgerow flowers through to
pond and wetland flowers, showing how nectar is available
through the season, not just when the ‘traditional’ wild
meadow comes into flower.
Nick Macer – Exotics gets
tough
At
Pan-Global Plants. Nick provides an inspiring selection
of some of the finest, rarest and most desirable plants
of all types that will grow in Great Britain . He has a
penchant for the exotic, particularly if it is hardier
than it looks, thrives
without much fuss and possesses exceptional good looks.

15th October
Cleve West – Imaginative design solutions
Cleve,
a five-time RHS gold-medal winner known for his imaginative
garden designs, which combine a sensitivity to the natural
elements with tricks to tease the eye, will talk
about some of the gardens which he has created and his
productive allotment. Cleve will also share his
successful ideas and tricks regarding layout, materials
and planting schemes.
Angela Tandy – Ferns and i vies in the
garden and home
Angela , from Fibrex Nurseries - home of the national
hedera collection - will show how different varieties
can be used to create a living backdrop, arches or topiary. She
will also talk about how best to use h ardy f erns to enhance
semi or full shade areas with their beautiful fronds.

Christmas Workshop with
Emma Lynch
Emma is
a creative master florist who in 2007 was awarded ‘Best
Independent Florist in Wales’. After demonstrating two
of her artistic and sumptuous designs, Emma,
with her senior florist Kirsty, will guide and encourage each
participant to create their own festive door wreath and table
arrangements. All materials provided.
