2007 Programme
Each day at Llanover Garden School begins at 10am
with coffee or tea, ahead of the morning session at
10.30am. A seated two course lunch will be served with
wine or elderflower, before the afternoon presentation.
The day will end with homemade teas and another opportunity
to talk and walk around Llanover Gardens.
Thursday 4th October
Arne Maynard - Creating a Sense of Space
Garden designer Arne, winner of the coveted Best Garden Award
at the Chelsea Flower Show, will cover the general principles
of structure, planting and punctuation in the garden. Expect
creative thinking on the roles of boundaries, borders, sculpture
and furniture plus sound advice on practicalities such as
overcoming the restrictions of a site. A strong combination
of stunning pictures, and imaginative ideas.
Bob Hares - Autumn Plants & Tasks
Bob, an experienced plantsman and gardener, will bring specimen
shrubs and herbaceous plants which give magnificent colour
and form in the late summer border. He will also advise
on tasks which should be done now, such as taking cuttings,
pruning and autumn sowing.
Wednesday 10th October
Anna Pavord - Tulips in the Garden
Now is the time to plant tulips for a display which can last
from February through to May. Anna the best-selling author
of The Tulip and The Naming of Names has tried out many of
the most exciting planting combinations in her own garden.
She will speak about the best tulips and how to plant them
to maximum effect
Paul Williams - Container gardening with creative combinations
Paul is a lively and entertaining plantsman, speaker and
author who will bring a variety of plants, composts, fertilisers
and containers together with his experienced eye for colour
and form. Expect practical tips and ideas to create imaginative
container planting schemes.
Tuesday 16th October
Dan Butler - Edible Fungi Foray
As a nation we are wary of collecting and eating mushrooms
gathered in the wild. Today Dan, a foraging expert, will
guide everyone around the grounds here identifying, gathering
and cooking the most delicious fungi. If it is raining, Dan
will use slides and fresh material to encourage us to forage
when the sun shines.
Julia Scott - Herbs to Eat and Heal
Julia is a herbalist who has created a beautiful walled organic
herb garden. Armed with fresh examples of the large range
of herbs available, she will talk about their medicinal
and culinary uses. She will also show how to propagate
herbs to make your own herbal remedies, like the oils,
tinctures and creams she will bring along.

Out
Dining in Style & One for the Pot
Susie returns by popular demand to guide workshop participants
through the creation of their own formal dinner party table
designs. In the afternoon everyone will make an informal
supper party arrangement for a side or buffet table, mixing
flowers and vegetables together in a terracotta pot.

Floral Workshop with Susie
Edwards - Decking the Halls Sold Out
With guidance from Susie, participants will create a classic
door wreath or circular table piece with seasonal foliage
using form, texture and colour. After lunch, she will teach
the secrets of garland making so you can deck your banisters,
drape your doors and add magic to your mantelpiece.

Countdown to Christmas
The Christmas season gets longer each year and we expect
so much from our decorations. Susie will show several design
ideas for the winter season from dressing the Christmas tree
to decorating tables with flowers and foliage in classic
and contemporary styles to last the season. |
